• used these in my shop for 18 years to hang sun catchers in the window. The trick is to make sure the window is clean, the temperature above 45 degrees and the cups themselves, are flexible. Soak the suction cups in hot water until they are pliable. Then dry them off. Put a tiny amount of salad oil on your finger, then rub it on the inside of the cup and press on the glass. It will stay secure and safe.
• Used these to hang some stuff out of the way in a small cruise ship cabin. Used one to store our folding umbrella when not needed and another to hang our shipboard ID cards when we weren’t out and about. Both were stuck to varnished wood surfaces and stayed secured for all 16 days we were aboard the ship.

Make sure the suction cup is clean and free from debris.
If the suction cup needs to be cleaned, wash in warm soapy water then dry gently with a lint-free cloth.
Clean the surface you are applying the suction cup to. It won’t adhere well to a dirty surface.
To enhance suction, a tiny dab of Vaseline or cooking oil may be rubbed on the rim of the cup.
Press the cup all the way down, against the surface.
The suction cup may need to be “burped” periodically by pressing down on it to remove any air that may have seeped in.
Temperature and humidity variations may make a suction cup lose its grip. If bonded above 40⁰ F/5⁰ C the cup will provide the most reliable service from -22⁰ to 120⁰ F.
To remove the cup, simply pull up on the release tab to break the suction.

We live in Oregon and have had an extremely cold winter for the area with temps going into single digits and they have stayed in the exact same place all through the cold and even when ice melted on our single pane windows and caused condensation. I say great buy.

I was glad to have happened to see this item when I was shopping for suncatchers. I purchased several to give as gifts. When I saw the suction cups, it reminded me that the recipients would need a sunction cup for the suncatcher. So I added a package to my order. These work ok for my needs. I use them to stick a sponge holder to my kitchen sink. They wouldn’t stick at first, but after I washed them with dish detergent, they’ve been sticking more reliably. So if you’re having trouble getting these to stick, wash them well first. There must be some kind of residue left on them from the manufacturing process.

Bought these for my Cobra radar detector, because the cups that came with it were really crappy. These worked pretty well, the bracket holes were too small for the posts, but I solved that by just putting the hooks on after attaching to the bracket.

How Does a Suction Cup Work?

What is it of the suction cups?

A suction cup is what you use when you want to hang a poster on a glass window or pick up a sheet of glass. They are perfect for attaching to any flat, non-porous surface and will adhere with a lot of force if applied correctly. They are made from soft rubber and stick to a surface using the force of air pressure. The suction cup must meet three criteria to work properly: It needs to have a “cup” shape with concave center and flat spreading sides, it must adhere to a flat, non-porous surface, and be made of air-tight material.

How does a suction cup work?

A suction cup is made from soft rubber that is impenetrable by air. The suction cup has a concave area under the nose or head of the cup which naturally traps air inside of it . Press the suction cup against a flat surface, like a window, and the air trapped inside of the concave area is pressed outwards, away from the circular flap of the cup.

Air Pressure

Once the air is forced out, a vacuum is formed. Since atmospheric pressure will always try to equalize itself, air naturally fills in any missing gaps. This pressure pushes against the air outside of the suction cup. Since it can not penetrate the suction cup surface, it forces it instead against the flat piece of glass. If air can work under the edges of the suction cup, or through the surface, the “seal” will break and the suction cup will fall off.
