How to get suction cups to work
How to get suction cups to work?
Suction cups are some of the most helpful piece of equipment to have around the house if you’re either too lazy to or simply aren’t handy enough to drilling holes all over the walls. However, to achieve this, you first have to know how to get suction cups to work.
Now, the problem mainly comes about if, despite the fact that you’ve tried to stick it on your tile surface, it simply isn’t smooth enough to hold and your stuff keeps falling down after less than few minutes.
If this is the case, you have probably considered more than one option – probably glue or double sided tape to no avail. Below is a simple solution that should get you going for a month or two.
Step 1
Just to be sure, the first step is check if you need to be concerned about your suction cup or not. If you pull on the suction cup and it easily comes off, this guide is just for you, otherwise you’re good to go.
Step 2
Using vinegar or isopropyl alcohol (rubbing alcohol), clean the surface that you want the suction cup to stick on or this whole guide will altogether be useless in future. Also make sure no cloth fabric is left on the wall or the suction cup’s effectiveness is rendered useless.
Step 3
For this step, you’ll need tape that’s about as wide as your suction cup. The tape has to be just as wide or a little narrower than your suction cup, but you can’t overlap pieces of tape on your suction cup because the resulting seam when the pieces overlap allows in air (making the whole thing completely ineffective). This is one of the main reasons most people don’t know how to get suction cups to work.
Step 4
Cut the tape in a square and stick it to the wall just where you want the suction cup to be, then, using your nails, rub the tape tightly onto the wall in order to get rid of any air pockets that may still be inside, at the same time forcing the adhesive into the little spaces of the possibly textured surface. If you recall, what you want underneath the tape is a vacuum above all else and the resulting vacuum pressure.
Step 5
Finally, stick the suction cup in the center of the tape, and if you’re lucky enough, you should have perfectly good seal, that can resist quite a bit of force without dislodging it.
Voila! That’s pretty much it when it comes to how to get suction cups to work. The main advantage of this is that since the tape is clear, you’ll never even see it in the first place. It should also be safe to push you for quite a while, as long as you seal down the edges of the tape properly enough with your fingernails.
